Make Your Life Be What You Dream

For a great part of my life I heard people telling me: “You dream too big. Lower your expectations and you will be happier.”  In a way it makes sense, right? If I lower my expectations I have to achieve less, and therefore when I do get to achieve the lesser expectations I’ll be completely happy.  It sounds cohesive, but it is fundamentally wrong.  The dreams we have is what fuels us to get up, research, investigate, invest, think, struggle, cry, and laugh.  The dreams we have is what makes our journey a series of vibrant experiences.  Lowering our expectations means giving up on what fuels us.

The point is; it doesn’t matter if we achieve everything we set ourselves out to.  What matters is that we keep on creating goals and dreams to be our destination, the bigger the dream the bigger the journey.

Don’t sell yourself short.  If you are surrounded by people who want to damp your greater dreams, befriend others that will support you on your journey.

Life is about experiences.  How we plot to get where we want to go and how we deal with the successes and the obstacles.

Just make sure your goals are worthwhile. Don’t waste your life by dreaming about becoming famous just for the sake of it.  Let being famous become a consequence of some worthwhile endeavor.  If you dream about being rich, make being rich a consequence of something amazing that is going to change the way people see themselves and live their lives.  Why not? Dream big and live big.

When A House Is A Home

Yard pictures 012I’m sitting outside in my yard drinking a cup of coffee.  I look at the trees and see them dancing to the tune of a Sunday breeze. The sun, not wanting to impose, caresses the pink flowers standing guard behind my Buddha water fountain which offers the humming birds a place to quench their thirst.

I always refer to my house as my “Tara”.  In the classic film “Gone With The Wind” Scarlett O’Hara drew her strength from her plantation, Tara.  I’m sure, as it is with me, it wasn’t the structure of the house or its riches that made Scarlett endure anything and everything to save her house.  It was, as it is with me, because her house was her home.

A Young Man’s Make-A-Wish Brings Joy To Family And Community

Life is about the simple things. Ask anyone or any family dealing with a terminal illness. We that are not dealing with loss at this moment let’s remember that so we can get the best that we can.

Collin Miron the young aspiring racer was recently granted a lifelong dream by the Make-A-Wish foundation of Colorado to pursue his passion for racing.

Collin was born with Cystic Fibrosis, or CF, which is a hereditary disease that effects about 30,000 Americans killing many in their 20s and 30s.

For his wish Collin wanted to race with his dad on his dad’s off-road race track. The Make-A-Wish foundation along with the local racing community came together to make his wish a come true. To Collin life is about living in the moment and having fun.

Think About Your Life Goals

There’s never a good time to sit down and think about what you want to accomplish in life. We have busy lives, and even when we’re not busy, we might just feel more like vegging in front of the TV or checking our feeds than thinking about the rest of our lives.

There’s never a good time to sit down and think about what you want to accomplish in life. We have busy lives, and even when we’re not busy, we might just feel more like vegging in front of the TV or checking our feeds than thinking about the rest of our lives.

Do it today, if you haven’t yet. It could take as little as 10 or 20 minutes, and it could make all the difference in the world.

And it’s not that hard. You probably already have a good idea of what you want to do, but you may not have it written down. Or maybe you’ve done this exercise before, but you haven’t updated your goals for awhile. Now’s the time to do it.

1. How to start? First, think about what you’d like people to say about you at your funeral. This comes from Stephen Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People — the habit called “Begin with the end in mind.” It’s also very effective. Imagine you are at the end of your life, looking back. What would you like to have accomplished? What kind of person would you like to have been?

Now here’s the key: start living your life so that you will eventually get to that point.

2. Now that you’ve given that a little thought, jot down some ideas for life goals you’d like to achieve before you die.

They can be in many areas, but here are a few to start with: professional, education, family, spiritual, travel, recreation, hobbies, community, charity. You can probably think of more, and you don’t need to have goals in all of these areas. Just some topics to get you started.

3. Refine your list, or expand it. After your initial brainstorm, you may want to trim it down. But you may also want to expand: sometimes it’s fun, and worthwhile, to dream big.

4. Now break it down. What should you accomplish in the next 10 years for each of these goals? How about 5 years? How about two years? One year? And this month?

Once you’ve planned out each goal for 10-year, 5-year, 2-year, 1-year and 1-month periods, you’ve got yourself a pretty solid plan.

5. Take action! I like to take my monthly goals, and make a to-do list for this week. What can I do today to further my goals? And if I can get just one thing done, I’ve done a lot to make those dreams a reality!

Take a step towards your dreams today by writing them down, and making a plan.
